Corporate Seminar Evening in the Agafay Desert: The Guide

Why the desert belongs on a seminar agenda

Most corporate seminars in Marrakech follow the same shape: two or three days of sessions in a hotel or riad, a welcome dinner, a free evening, and one evening that is supposed to be the highlight. The Agafay desert is where that highlight evening happens. Forty minutes south of the city, the stone plateau offers what no hotel terrace can: a full horizon, a dark sky and the certainty that no other company is on the site.

At The Long Table Marrakech, the site is privatised for one company per evening, for groups of 30 to 300 participants. This guide covers what planners ask before booking: how the evening fits into the agenda, what the group actually does, how speeches and awards work, which months to choose and how the proposal is built.

Where the evening sits in the programme

The working sessions stay in Marrakech. The desert hosts the evening, or a long lunch between two sessions. In practice, most groups book the desert as the closing night: the last day's sessions end mid-afternoon, vehicles collect the group at the hotel about ninety minutes before sunset, and the seminar ends on the plateau rather than in a conference room.

Two other placements work well. The first evening, as a welcome that sets the tone before the work begins. Or the middle evening of a three-day seminar, as the deliberate break in the agenda, the point where the group stops presenting to each other and starts talking to each other.

The running order, hour by hour

  • End of sessions: private transfers leave the seminar hotel or riad. The forty-minute drive is the transition from the city to the plateau.
  • Golden hour: welcome drinks facing the Atlas. Camels wait for those who want the ride at sunset.
  • Sunset: pottery with local artisans, or a walk across the stone desert while the light changes.
  • Nightfall: the long table. Mezze, a whole mechoui carved in front of the group, pastilla, desserts. Speeches and awards take place where the planner wants them.
  • After dinner: live Gnaoua music around the fire, then the sky. The plateau is dark enough to see the Milky Way.
  • Late evening: the same vehicles return the group to the hotel.

Team building without the forced games

Planners often ask for team building and dread what it usually means. On the plateau, the activities are the ones the place offers naturally: a camel caravan at sunset, pottery with local artisans, a walk across the stone desert, a whole mechoui shared at one table, stargazing with the fire behind. Nobody is asked to build a raft. The team spends the evening together in a place that does the work, and the conversations happen on their own.

Speeches, awards and announcements

Because the site hosts one company per evening, it suits the moments a seminar builds towards: a CEO address, a sales awards ceremony, a team recognition, an announcement that should stay inside the company. These moments are written into the running order with the planner, usually between the main course and dessert or at the start of dinner. Private branding and a custom menu are available for companies that want the evening to carry their identity.

Group sizes: 30 to 300

The Agafay site hosts seminar groups from 30 to 300 participants at the long table setting. For executive committees and boards under 40 people, the seminar and offsite page describes the more intimate format. Larger groups are handled on request.

Which months to choose

October to May is the prime season for a European company: mild days, reliably clear evenings on the plateau, and the contrast with a dark Northern European winter. Desert nights cool after dark from November to February, so fires and warm arrangements are part of the setup. June to September works with timing adapted to the heat, with a later start.

How the proposal is built

The evening is all-inclusive and built per group: private return transfers for every participant, welcome drinks at golden hour, activities, the full dinner, drinks composed for the evening, live music, stargazing and the hosting team in one proposal, calibrated to headcount and date. Nothing is added later. Planners receive a bespoke proposal within 24 hours.

Working with agencies and DMCs

The Long Table works directly with HR teams, executive assistants and internal planners, and with the agencies and DMCs that build Marrakech programmes. Partner commission is available. One contact handles transfers, menu, running order and hosting, so the planner coordinates nothing on the ground.

Before you book: five questions to settle

  1. Which evening of the seminar is the desert evening, and does the agenda end early enough that day?
  2. How many participants, and will partners or clients join for the evening?
  3. Are there speeches, awards or announcements, and who leads them?
  4. Dietary requirements and the drinks to compose for the evening?
  5. Where is the group staying, so transfers can be timed for golden hour?

With those five answers, the proposal can be built in a day. The seminar and the desert evening are described in full on the corporate seminar in the Agafay desert page, and the wider range of group formats on the private events in the Agafay hub.
