Berber stone houses in the Atlas foothills

Forty-five minutes from Marrakech, the Atlas foothills hold clusters of stone houses built into the hillside over generations. Terraced gardens, walnut trees, a spring. These maisons berbères are private residences — the owners step back, the Long Table steps in, and a single group occupies the entire property for the evening.

The setting has a particular gravity. The architecture is entirely local: hand-cut stone, flat earthen roofs, doorways worn smooth. Dinner is set on the terraces as the sun falls behind the ridgeline. Mint tea, Gnaoua percussion, a sky that fills without effort.

The group leaves Marrakech by private transfer in the afternoon and climbs through the foothills to the hamlet. Arrival is on foot through the kitchen gardens and past the fountains, up the tiered terraces to where the long table has been laid with the valley below. The village is open for one table and one night only: no other guests, no other group. Mint tea is served as the sun drops behind the ridge, then dinner on the terraces, with Gnaoua percussion carrying the evening until the transfers return to the city.
