The High Atlas on the Horizon: Events Near Marrakech

The Mountains, Seen from the Desert

The High Atlas rises to over 4,000 metres south of Marrakech. The Ourika Valley and Imlil can be reached in 45–90 minutes, and the mountain villages have a character of their own. For a private event, The Long Table works in one setting: the privatised plateau in the Agafay desert, 40 minutes from Marrakech, for 30 to 300 guests. The Atlas is part of that setting all the same, as the line of peaks along the southern horizon.

What the Plateau Offers

  • The view: on clear days, the High Atlas stands across the horizon, turning gold and then pink at sunset.
  • Privacy: the whole site is privatised for one group per evening. No other guests, no shared terrace.
  • The evening: golden hour arrival, camel rides, pottery with local artisans, a whole mechoui at the long table, live Gnaoua music, then stargazing.
  • Access: private transfers from Marrakech, forty minutes each way, with the final stretch on a 4x4 track.

The Best Season for the Atlas View

October to April is the prime season. The peaks are often snow-capped from November, which makes the horizon seen from the plateau even more striking at sunset. Nights cool after dark in winter, so fires and warm arrangements are part of the setup. In summer, the evening starts later, once the heat has dropped.

Adding a Mountain Day

Groups who want time in the mountains can spend a day in the Ourika Valley or around Imlil: a walk to a village, lunch, the cooler air. The evening then takes place on the plateau, with the same peaks on the horizon. For incentive programmes, this pairing gives the group an active day and a signature evening.
