Why Marrakech for an Indian Destination Wedding
Marrakech has emerged as one of the most requested destination wedding locations for NRI families — Indian families based in London, Paris, Geneva, Dubai, Singapore and New York who want a destination wedding that combines grandeur, privacy and cultural resonance. The Moroccan aesthetic — geometric tiling, arabesque archways, palatial courtyards — resonates deeply with South Asian visual culture. The scale is right: Marrakech can accommodate 30 to 300 guests across multi-day events without the logistical nightmares of some traditional Indian wedding destinations. And the flight connections are excellent from every NRI hub.
Flight Connections for NRI Families
London to Marrakech: 3h30 direct. Paris: 3h30. Geneva: 3h. Brussels: 3h30. Dubai: 6h. Mumbai: 8h. Delhi: 9h. Singapore: 13h via Dubai. New York: 9h. No visa required for UK, EU, GCC, US or Canadian passport holders. Indian passport holders require a visa — obtainable at Moroccan consulates.
A Typical 3-Day Indian Wedding Format
Day 1 — Mehndi & Sangeet: The privatised site in the Agafay desert, 40 minutes from Marrakech, hosts the afternoon mehndi ceremony. As the sun sets, the setting transitions to the sangeet — a full evening of dance, live music and dinner for 50 to 300 guests. The Long Table can arrange live dhol, folk musicians, or a customised entertainment programme.
Day 2 — Baraat & Ceremony: The baraat procession across the Agafay plateau — a moment of pure visual drama. The wedding ceremony on the plateau, with the Atlas on the horizon. A standing reception at sunset. The ceremonial dinner follows, all-inclusive, with a menu that balances Moroccan-influenced dishes with familiar Indian flavours.
Day 3 — Reception: The grand reception, typically the largest evening of the three, for 150 to 300 guests. Live entertainment, dancing, a full gastronomic dinner and a long table that stretches across the desert plateau.
Catering for Indian Weddings
Morocco is a halal country — halal catering is standard across all events. For Hindu families, we offer vegetarian and non-beef menus on request. Our chefs work from a Moroccan-Indian fusion perspective: Moroccan tagines, mezze and pastilla alongside dal, biryani and paneer preparations. Fully vegetarian menus are available for Jain families. We do not offer pork at any event.
The Setting for Indian Weddings
Every day of the wedding takes place on the privatised plateau in the Agafay desert, 40 minutes from Marrakech. The scale is right for a large Indian wedding, the visual drama is striking, and the privacy is complete: one family, no other guests on the site. Guests stay in the hotels and riads of their choice in Marrakech and are transferred to the plateau each day.
