Where Guests Stay, Where the Wedding Happens
Marrakech is full of Moroccan palaces and riads: traditional residences built around a courtyard, with hand-cut zellige, carved cedar ceilings and gardens of orange trees. Many couples want their guests to live in that architecture for the length of the stay. The wedding itself takes place in one setting: the privatised plateau in the Agafay desert, 40 minutes from Marrakech, for 30 to 300 guests.
The two fit together naturally. Guests sleep in the palace, riad or hotel the couple has chosen, spend the day in the medina, and are collected in the late afternoon for the evening on the plateau. The Long Table provides the evening; the accommodation stays entirely the couple's choice.
What the Desert Site Includes
- The whole plateau — the site is privatised for one wedding per evening. No other guests, no shared terrace, no hotel corridors.
- Ceremony at golden hour — civil or symbolic, facing the High Atlas on the horizon.
- Standing reception — as the light turns copper over the stone, with camel rides for those who want them.
- The long table — a gastronomic Moroccan dinner: mechoui, mezze, pastilla, dessert spread.
- Music and the night sky — live Gnaoua music, then the Milky Way overhead.
- Transfers — private vehicles from each palace, riad or hotel, and back again.
Choosing Where Guests Stay
A palace suits families who want one property for the whole wedding party: formal salons, a hammam before the ceremony, a garden for a quiet morning after. A riad is smaller and more enclosed, and works well when the group is spread across several houses in the medina. Hotels make sense for larger groups. Whatever the choice, transfers to the plateau are organised from each property.
The Wedding Day
- Morning: time at the palace or riad. Hammam and preparations for the wedding party.
- Late afternoon: private transfers from each property; forty minutes to the plateau.
- Sunset: the ceremony facing the Atlas, then a standing reception.
- Dinner: a Moroccan feast at the long table under the stars. Live Gnaoua music.
- Night: dancing on the plateau, then the same vehicles return guests to their accommodation.
