Photo and Film Shoots in the Agafay Desert: Logistics

Start with the light, then the access. Agafay is 40 minutes from Marrakech by a 4x4 track, with a stone landscape that works at sunrise, sunset and under the stars. Plan the equipment and crew transfers for the track, arrange catering for the day, choose a privatised site so no outsider enters the frame, and check which authorisations apply with the competent authorities.

Light: build the day around the sun

In the desert there is little to filter the light. The low sun at the beginning and end of the day gives long shadows, warm colours and relief to the stones; the middle of the day is harder and flatter. Most productions therefore plan the key shots for early morning and late afternoon, and use the middle of the day for set-ups, close-ups, rest and meals.

Night is a possibility too. The sky over the Agafay plateau lends itself to starry scenes, but a night shoot needs its own lighting, power and safety plan, which should be agreed with the team in advance.

Access by track and equipment

The site is reached by a 4x4 track on the final stretch. For a shoot, this has a direct consequence: vehicles carrying equipment must be suited to the track. Tell us early about the volume and the type of equipment, such as cameras, lighting, generators, props, wardrobe or large set pieces, so that the right vehicles are arranged. A scouting visit before the shoot is the simplest way to check the track and the working areas.

The Agafay desert has hosted fashion shows by Saint Laurent (2022), Guess (2025) and Giorgio Armani × Kith (2026), a sign that the landscape and the access suit large productions.

Crew, catering and comfort

A desert day is long, and the crew works better when it is well cared for. Plan, with the team:

  • Meals and refreshments for the whole crew, at set times.
  • Shade, seating and a clear space for resting between set-ups.
  • A changing area and a space for hair and make-up.
  • Private transfers from Marrakech for the crew and the talent.
  • A schedule shared in advance with every department.

Our proposal can include private transfers and meals composed for your group. Tell us the size of the crew and the length of the day at the brief.

A private site, so the frame stays clean

The Long Table Marrakech is fully privatised: one group at a time, with no other visitors on the site. For a shoot, that means a controlled environment: no stranger crossing the frame, no uncontrolled noise, and a team that can work at its own pace. For an event with an audience, such as a presentation or a dinner, the site hosts base formats from 30 to 300 guests.

Authorisations: questions to ask the authorities

Filming and photographing professionally, flying a drone or using the images for advertising may require authorisations in Morocco. We do not give legal advice, so put these questions to the competent Moroccan authorities and to your local production partner:

  • Which authorisations apply to the type of shoot you plan?
  • Is a specific permit needed for drones, and who applies for it?
  • What documents are needed for equipment entering the country?
  • Are there additional conditions for commercial use of the images?
  • How far in advance should each request be submitted?

Key points to remember

  • Plan the key shots around the low sun, early and late.
  • The final stretch is a 4x4 track: tell us about your equipment early.
  • A privatised site keeps the frame clean and the team in control.
  • Check authorisations with the competent authorities well ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Can we shoot at night?

Yes, it is possible with a plan for lighting, power and safety, agreed with the team in advance.

Can heavy equipment reach the site?

The final stretch is a 4x4 track, so tell us about the equipment you plan to bring and we organise suitable vehicles. A scouting visit is recommended.

Do you handle the permits?

Permits depend on the type of shoot. Ask the competent authorities and your local production partner which authorisations apply.

Is the site private during the shoot?

Yes. The site is fully privatised, with one group at a time.
